Sound Sesh w/ Sydney #3: Scotiabank Arena Veteran

So the other day, my friend got tickets to Tyler the Creator's tour, Chromakopia. The concert is being held at, arguably, the most popular concert venue, Scotiabank Arena. Since I have been there enough that times that they should name a section after me, my friend reached out for some tips and tricks for attending a concert. I thought I would share them here for anyone also attending Tyler's concert or any other concert for that matter.

TIP 1: PRE GAME HARD BUT NOT TOO HARD

Drinks at concert venues are always ridiculously expensive. I'm talking about like $20 for a single can of beer ridiculous. My favourite spot to drink before a show at Scotiabank Arena is Jack Astors. They have fishbowls, cheap appetizers, and it's a 5 minute walk away. You can't go wrong. But be warned: if you are sloppy drunk, they WILL deny you entry into the show. So drink responsibly!

TIP 2: NEVER SHOW UP BEFORE DOORS OPEN

One misconception people have about concerts is that you NEED to be there once the doors open. This is completely false. Unless you have floor/general admission tickets that are regulated on a first come first serve basis, there is no need to show up on time to a concert. Seats are assigned and celebrities are always late to their own shows. If a concert says doors open at 7, I'll usually show up at 8 after I get a drink or two from Jack Astors. I also like the keep myself updated on what's going on at the venue while I am at Jack's by looking at X, that way I show up right on time for the main event. There's always live updates happening for concerts on X, so that will be your bestfriend.

TIP 3: DITCH THE HEELS AND WEAR COMFY SHOES

This one goes for my fashion forward friends: if you can't walk a while in those shoes then your toes are going to die. Not only are concert venues big and involve lots of walking, but in order to survive getting out of an after concert crowd, you're gonna need some running shoes.

MY CREDENTIALS:

Here are just a couple clips from some more recent shows I've attended, including the one of Billie Eilish singing "What Was I Made For?" that I mentioned in class the other day!

  1. I love how you've explained your rules for going to the Scotiabank arena as it can often be an overwhelming and hectic situation. Concerts are so expensive these days so you want to make the most out of the experience you've paid for. I 100% agree with your comfy shoes over heels rule, the heels are never worth it especially standing for the whole concert. Side note, so jealous of the "What was I Made for" video and wish I got to go to that concert!!!

  2. Hi Sydney! I love this guide you gave, and I can totally relate to your advice! The tip about not needing to be there right when the doors open is such a game-changer. So many people think they have to rush in as soon as the venue opens, but like you said, if your seats are assigned, there’s really no reason to. I’ve found that showing up a bit later makes the whole experience way more relaxed. Perfect advice for anyone looking to enjoy the show without the stress!
