Sahib: Spotify top 9 songs of 2023
I would like to share my Spotify top 9 songs of 2023.
I believe Spotify wrapped can say a lot about a person, there is little to no bias, it is the straight numbers of who you were listening to the most.
Right away, as most people already know, we can see that Drake is clearly my top artist. However, the interesting thing about these songs being here is that Spotify Wrapped is tracked from November to November, and Drake's album “For All The Dogs” came out October 6th. Therefore in the 2 months of the album's release, I listened to enough of it that 5/9 songs in my top 5 are from that album.
As I go through all the songs in my Wrapped, the genres bounce around from pop to R&B, but the top 9 are all rap songs, and I don't even consider myself a big “rap” listener. It is extremely interesting how Spotify can show you things that you are not even aware of.
I was interested in taking this course because I wanted to expand my horizons when it comes to music and digital media in general. For my group project, I would love to explore the economic impact artists have on cities. Whether that be from a concert they put on in the city, or because they are from the city.
Hi Sahib, when I looked back at my 2023 Spotify top songs I also had an interesting mix of songs. I found it interesting how you said that your top songs are like your "identity" in a sense because these are songs that I listened to almost every day for different reasons. One key takeaway was that the top three songs are from SZA's SOS album that I listened to religiously in 2023 and then a house song. Different genres but interesting to see how they tie in together and are integral in my music listening.
ReplyDeleteHey Sahib, I like that you shared your Spotify Wrapped with us because I feel like you can (usually) tell a lot about someone based on this particular list. You and I share very similar music tastes! I also value rap and R&B music as my favourite genres. What are your thoughts on Members Only from For All the Dogs? Personally, that is my favourite song on the album, but I would love to hear your thoughts on it!
ReplyDeleteHi Sahib, I like your idea of Spotify Wrapped giving insight to who we are! It's so interesting to see how much I actually listen to certain songs, and to see how my music taste has changed throughout the year when I see songs on my top 10 I don't really listen to anymore. I also listen to classical piano when studying or falling asleep, so there's always songs from that genre on my top songs and artists. It definitely gives insight into how and when I consume different types music, as well as the purposes they have for my daily life.
